The Walton D. Phillips Pamphlet Collection contains printed material such as pamphlets, booklets, and assorted newsletters published by labor organizers, leftist political groups, and unions in the first half of the 20th century in the United States. Topics include class struggle, strike strategy, racism and anti-semitism, socialism and anarchism, capitalism, labor unions, and other issues related to organized labor. Groups such as the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), Communist Party of the United States of America (CPUSA), American Federation of Teachers (AFT), International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) are heavily represented in this collection. There are also substantial materials related to political prisoners and the Red Scare, including the political trials of Tom Mooney and Earl Browder.
